Every MAL Lighting HLD3 Tanklamp is made to measure, while using the newest technologies. You specify what components you want and don’t have to pay for things that you don’t need. This lamp starts out with a 2 Ah gelcell and fixed cable. Almost everything is upgradeable from this basic configuration. Need more power, longer burntime? No problem, specify either the 4 Ah or 8 Ah NiMh rechargeable batteries. Need to be able to use different lampheads on your battertank? No problem either, just specify an EO Connector. The EO connectors enable you to use different lampheads, are waterproof, and can be connected and disconnected underwater without damage.

The MAL-LIGHTING HLD3 Tanklamp was designed for use underwater. All components were carefully selected for saltwater compatibility. The newest development from MAL-Lighting is based on a new lighting technology.
The HLD lamp excels underwater due to it’s incredible brightness, extreme reliability, and effective use of available power. Even under the difficult conditions presented by the underwater environment this lamp projects a robust and color balanced beam of light.

Lightoutput:

The newest development from MAL-Lighting is based on a new lighting technology.The light output of HLD light emitters is up to 10x brighter than halogen bulbs and up to twice as bright as HID (high intensity discharge) bulbs.
An additional advantage is the extremely high color temperature of up to 10,000° K. This is approx 30% higher than HID lamps and over 3x higher than halogen bulbs. Water absorbs longwaved light sooner than shortwave high color temperature light which means that less of the HLD light will be absorbed underwater and you will see brighter and considerably further. In comparison with halogen bulbs the HLD light emitter does not use fragile winding that will break but uses a stabile diode junction. Therefore the HLD light emitter is impervious to vibration, shocks can’t hurt it. The HLD lamphead was designed to hold 3 independent HLD light emitters, whereby each HLD light emitter also functions as a backup for the other 2 emitters. The possibility of loosing all light is extremely low with 3 independent light emitters. In the unlikely event that a HLD light emitter failure occurs you can continue your dive with the other 2 light emitters which still provide ample lighting and a 100% backup.

Reliability:

The HLD is over 20x more reliable than a halogen bulb. High intensity halogen bulbs are usually exchanged at less than 150 hours of use, the HLD light emitter is still providing daylight equivalent lighting years later, since the mean time between failures (MTBF) of each light emitter is specified as 50,000 hours – and we are using 3 of them.
A further advantage of the HLD is the wide supply voltage range which functions properly between 10 and 20V. Due to the high efficiency, the HLD uses only 1/3  the power of a compatible halogen bulb.

Lamphead:

The Lamphead is made of anodised aluminium specifically designed for use in saltwater. The parts are precision machined using CNC technology. The sturdy housing and perfect O-Ring seals provide a waterproof seal to a minimum depth of 660 feet.
